THE incredible generosity shown to a Tasmanian family who flew to Brazil to search for their missing loved one will also benefit others now his ashes have been brought back home.

Hobart man Rye Hunt went missing in May while on the adventure of a lifetime to South America.

The 25-year-old and the workmate with whom he was backpacking were at Rio de Janeiro airport ready to continue their travels when Mr Hunt left the airport and disappeared.

Weeks later his body was found washed up near the Brazilian capital with authorities saying he had died from either dehydration or drowning as he swam from a small island near Copacabana beach.

Mr Hunt’s family have now decided that the almost $14,000 left over from a GoFundMe campaign – which allowed Mr Hunt’s girlfriend and uncle to travel to Brazil to join in the search – will be shared between Speak Up! Stay Chatty and the Missing Persons Advocacy Network.
